Guidelines for preparing new book proposals info@fieldworkpublications.co.uk
We welcome suggestions for new books. Please use the following structure when submitting a proposal to help us with our evaluation. About the book: Title and overview 1. Working title of the book. 2. A summary of the aims and scope of the book. (200-300 words) 3. A contents list (including any sub-headings inside each chapter) with a short paragraph describing each chapter. 4. The predicted length of the book in number of words. If the manuscript is likely to be more than 100,000 words, please give supporting evidence for the need for this length. 5. How many tables, illustrations and photographs will there be? Will there be any unusual text features that we will need to consider? 6. Your timetable: what stage are you at now, and when do you hope to complete the manuscript? Readership 7. Please give a realistic assessment of your intended readership stressing the major markets. For example, what level is the book pitched at? If applicable, for which course(s) will it be used? Will it be required for supplementary reading? Is its appeal international or confined to a particular geographic market? Competition 8. Please give a description of the book in relation to competing titles include the following information: the author(s), title, publisher, publication date, price and approximate number of pages of the main competing titles. Also state any unique features that will distinguish your book from the competition, for example, why your book is different or better. About the author(s) 9. Names of the author(s) 10. Contact details for the author(s): postal address, email address, telephone and fax numbers 11. Please provide some brief career information about yourself and your co-authors, including any details of previous publications. Other information 12. Please tell us if you have sent or intend to send the proposal for consideration to any other publishers. If this is the case, it is extremely important that we are informed.
